Protection from Fear

Saturday, March 20th

Buddha Shakyamuniwith Gen Kelsang Thekchen
10:00am - 4:00pm

When difficult situations arise, we become aware of how little control we have over our lives, so we seek protection. Refuge from fear and suffering can be found in an authentic spiritual teacher, spiritual teachings, and a spiritual community. In Buddhism this is referred to as Refuge in the Three Jewels.

When we take the Refuge Vows, we make a committment to follow the Buddhist way of life and to keep Refuge in the Three Jewels at our heart.  Please join us if you would like to take the Refuge Vows and become a Buddhist at 4:00 PM.

The Pratimoksha Vows are a set of vows people choose to take to improve their training in higher moral discipline.  When we take the Pratimoksha Vows we promise to abandon: killing, stealing, sexual misconduct, lying and taking intoxicants.  Gen Thekchen will be granting the Pratimoksha Vows at 4:45 PM.

An more detailed explanation of both sets of vows will be explained prior to the 3:30pm break.  Please remember that these vows are entirely optional. You do not have to take the vows in order to attend the course and learn more about Buddhism.

Cost: $45 includes  lunch for course.  (There is not cost for the Vow Ceremonies).
